Thank you so much to everyone who volunteered to create a logo for my slam career! The first one has already been finished, and it's looking GREAT! I invite you to check out The ROAR! Store and support a local poet and designer!

The problem with success

Sometimes in life, with hard work, focus, and patience, you do get what you want. And then what?
That's what I've been trying to figure out.
Best Case Scenario: you make crazy idealistic goals that no one thinks you'll ever accomplish. By putting your back into it, you reach those goals, prove everyone wrong, and are momentarily happy.*
*That happiness can't last forever, so you make some new outlandish goals and get to work. Rinse & repeat.

The problem I get to is that success is never enough. No amount of ______ (money, love, weed, sex- you fill in the blank) is ever going to keep you happy. We've been cursed with the pursuit of happiness; no one seems to have roadmapped the journey.

But that's precisely the point. What fun would life be if we already had a cheatsheet? Sure, who doesn't like getting the code to a bonus level, but no one wants an outline of the whole game- That defeats the whole purpose of playing! And keeping this analogy, beating the game only is fun for like 2 seconds. After that, you wish with all your heart that you could go back and play some more! Again, this proves that its the process that's important. Many poets and authors and singers and speakers have said it much more eloquently than I will ever be able to, but it's the journey, and not the destination, that's important.

So what do we do with this?
It's okay to have goals, and I actually encourage this as it keeps you moving forward. Just remember that the goal is not the important part- how you go about achieving the goal is what really matters. Make one dream come true, and then dream some more. Life is about growing, changing, evolving, and improving. Where you are at is where you're supposed to be at this moment in time, so never apologize for failing to meet some kind of standard. As long as you are progressing, you are living. So go out and live it up! =)

Poems!

Even though I've been focusing on slam stuff lately, I decided it was time to start getting published. I went through my store of older poems, revamped a few, and submitted a query letter to a local publisher. I'll definitely keep you updated on how things go with that! But in the meantime, here's a brief sample of mah work: =)

The Very Least

I'm rebuilding my life.
This house of cards grows higher,
Spiraling spires up into Skye.
Always-
Over greatness looms clouded instability.
Doom will reign.
Powerful winds whip around striking towers
But Viking showers are nothing to run from-
A conundrum:
It's always the butterfly breeze,
The kind that trees tease,
That destroys everything.

At least in ruins I have nothing to lose.
